Esta planta se ha convertido en una superestrella desde su introducción limitada hace unos años, encontrando un mercado listo a precios altos en convenciones y exposiciones de bromelias. Ahora se usa comúnmente como una planta resistente para paisajes, es una planta espectacular de gran crecimiento con barras de color marrón rojizo a lo largo de hojas de color verde claro. Grandes espinas marginales bordean las hojas anchas y rígidas. Una planta superior para hibridar, siendo Hannibal Lecter un ejemplo. Cabe señalar que esta planta no tiene estatus botánico oficial. Chester Skotak la introdujo en el cultivo después de haberla encontrado en una colección brasileña. A falta de una mejor descripción por ahora, se la conoce como carcharodon cv. 'Tiger'. Se desconoce el carcharodon 'real' y es posible que ni siquiera se la cultive.
