Un cruce realmente bueno, bautizado así por Grant Groves, que en ese momento estaba experimentando con híbridos de Aechmea resistentes al frío. Esta planta no solo es resistente al frío y a las heladas leves, sino que también puede prosperar a la sombra o a pleno sol. Además, se trata de una planta abigarrada de un progenitor de color verde sólido, algo muy inusual. Es una planta que florece tímidamente, pero cuando florece, la inflorescencia es una panícula de color rosa intenso muy bien ramificada. Las hojas son muy vistosas con una variegación de color marfil y adquirirán un rubor rosado a rojizo según la intensidad de la luz ambiental.
